M8 of May 2021: Ryu Amagasa
Time to meet our M8 of May 2021, Ryutaro Amagasa
Ryutaro was born in Tokyo but moved all over Japan due to his father's job. At around 2 years old (very precisely), he started to dream about becoming an airline pilot.
Ryu was a busy kid, his mum used to drive him to many classes: swimming, gymnastic, piano, drums, saxophone AND Japanese calligraphy. That is quite impressive!!

High school was not the greatest experience for Ryu, being bullied in the town they were living in at that time. A tough time some of us experienced when we were teenagers and it definitely leaves a wound. His mom has always been by his side, especially through these moments. "I've never really been a violent person, however I learnt to defend myself differently".
Ryu started to hit the gym and have a healthier life. He wanted to take care of himself and heal from these terrible memories. He lost a lot of weight, and got addicted to it. He adds “I like when my uniform is tight on me”. Train harder and harder is one of his daily goals!

When he moved back to Tokyo, he entered the school of aviation to follow his old dream. We asked Ryu to recall his best moments, his challenges and motivations.

I was born in Tokyo and still live here :)

I have always dreamt to become an airline pilot since I'm a kid.
So when I officially became one, it definitely was a moment of pride. I really love my mom, she is like my best friend and she always supported my dreams. I’m such a lucky guy, I always had a solid dream and I achieved it.
Having her onboard for my first flight was another unforgettable moment I would say.

WHO ARE YOUR CHAMPIONS?
My grandfather is one of the people I respect the most. He was abandoned by his parents, surviving the war and poverty. He established his own company and took care of his family. He should be an example for everyone.
He always said to me “苔の信念岩をも貫く/Moss can even grow on rocks”. It means if you stick with your faith, your efforts will always be rewarded. I hope I can be a great man like him one day.

IN YOUR OPINION, WHAT MAKES AN EVERYDAY CHAMPION?
People who have goals and try hard to achieve them. Also I’m a pretty serious person. It’s good to be laid back and chill but it’s important to be a good leader. I really admire people who are like that naturally, they are inspiring.
WHAT’S YOUR MOTTO?
I know this might not sound always good but YOLO!!
I love to experience things as much as I can and while I can. I would rather regret after trying than without giving it a try. Never say no to the chances is kind of my motto.
